Terrorists holding teachers and pupils abducted from three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have reportedly issued four conditions for the release of their captives, including the freedom of two detained terrorist commanders, payment of ransom, provision of two Hilux vehicles and the implementation of Sharia-related law.
The victims were kidnapped during coordinated attacks on schools in Esinele, Yawota and Alawusa communities on May 15.
Reports identified the commanders as Mahmud Usman, also known as Abu Bara’a, and his deputy, Abubakar Abba, both alleged leaders of the Ansaru faction linked to terrorism-related activities and currently facing trial in Abuja.
Additional reports claimed the abductors demanded ₦1bn to be paid into a bank account in the Republic of Benin, though this figure has not been independently verified.
Security experts warned against meeting the demands, while the Oyo State Government declined to disclose details of ongoing rescue efforts.
The crisis deepened after one abducted teacher, Michael Oyedokun, was reportedly killed by the terrorists.
