A protest by striking workers over unpaid salaries and welfare concerns escalated on Monday in Abuja, creating a tense moment as the convoy of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, passed through the area.
According to reports, the workers had converged to demand action on long-standing grievances when Wike’s motorcade drove by.

The sight of the convoy appeared to heighten emotions among the protesters, who became increasingly vocal as the vehicles approached.
A video circulating on social media captured the scene, showing the aggrieved workers chanting and advancing toward the convoy in an attempt to draw attention to their demands.
The footage showed a charged atmosphere as the demonstrators expressed frustration over unresolved salary and welfare issues.
The industrial action has brought activities in major government offices across Abuja to a standstill.
In response, Wike has dragged the Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC) before the court over the strike.
The case, marked NICN/ABJ/17/2026, was filed at the Abuja Division of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) and is slated for hearing today.
According to court filings, the claimants are the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), while the defendants are JUAC President, Rifkatu Iortyer, and the union’s Secretary-General, Abdullahi Saleh, who were sued in their representative capacities.
