The National Assembly has postponed its planned resumption of plenary, originally scheduled for February 24, 2026, citing the need to conclude ongoing budget defence sessions.
Both chambers had earlier adjourned plenary for two weeks to allow committees to scrutinize the 2026 budget submissions from ministries, departments, agencies (MDAs), and government parastatals.
In a statement on Monday, Kamoru Ogunlana, Clerk to the National Assembly, explained that the adjournment is intended to give lawmakers sufficient time to complete the detailed budget reviews.
The postponement underscores the Assembly’s focus on thorough oversight of government spending, as committees continue to engage with MDAs on fiscal allocations and policy priorities for the upcoming fiscal year.

Sources indicate that plenary will resume once all committees submit their reports, ensuring that lawmakers are fully briefed before debate and approval of the budget.
“This postponement is to enable Committees of the Assembly to conclude ongoing budget defence sessions,” the notice reads.
“Plenary will now reconvene in both chambers on Thursday, 5th March 2026 at 11:00 a.m.
“Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members are kindly requested to take note of the new resumption date and time.
