General Christopher Musa (retd.) has pledged swift improvements in Nigeria’s security architecture following his swearing-in as Minister of Defence on Thursday.
He assured Nigerians that tangible results would be felt across the country as he works to restore synergy among security agencies.
Speaking to correspondents at the State House after taking the oath before President Bola Tinubu, Musa said his priority is to ensure close collaboration between the armed forces and other security organs.
“Security is everybody’s responsibility. My goal is to strengthen partnerships and make sure all Nigerians are protected,” he said.
The former Chief of Defence Staff, who retired in October 2025, highlighted his familiarity with the security terrain and promised to convert the goodwill of Nigerians into meaningful outcomes.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding homes, farms, and schools nationwide.President Tinubu tasked Musa with delivering results that citizens could feel in their daily lives.
The new minister said he would ensure that security operations allow Nigerians to go about their lives without fear, supporting the broader goals of the government’s Renewed Hope Programme.
Musa succeeds Mohammed Badaru, who resigned on December 1, 2025, and takes over amid rising security challenges, including recent mass abductions and attacks in Kebbi, Niger, and Kwara states.
His appointment comes shortly after the US re-designated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern over attacks on Christians, underscoring the urgent need for effective security leadership.
