Former Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, has formally revealed his plan to run for the presidency in the 2027 general election under the aegis of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The former federal lawmaker, who served two terms in the House of Representatives, said the complex challenges facing Nigeria demand leaders with strong policy competence, negotiation skills and the ability to connect effectively with citizens at the grassroots level.

Nwajiuba previously sought the nation’s highest office in 2023 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) but was unsuccessful at the party’s presidential primaries.
In a statement issued on Monday by his media office, the ex-minister expressed confidence that his years of public service have adequately prepared him for the task ahead.
He noted that his work in the legislature, the executive arm of government and other national institutions has given him extensive knowledge of governance, economic management and policy development.
The statement outlined that his campaign would focus primarily on education reform, economic stability and rebuilding public confidence in government institutions. These, it stressed, are key areas required to drive sustainable national progress.
It further explained that competence, practical experience and institutional understanding would shape the foundation of the leadership vision he hopes to present to Nigerians.
“With his declaration, Nwajiuba joins a growing list of aspirants aiming to shape the national conversation ahead of the next general election, as debates around competence, experience and inclusive governance continue to gain momentum,” the statement added.
