Nollywood actress Teniola Aladese has sparked fresh debate on gender roles and domestic responsibilities, questioning why household chores remain largely a woman’s duty despite modern social and economic realities.
During a podcast discussion, Aladese criticised long-standing stereotypes that see women as the sole caretakers at home.
“Why can’t a man wash plate? Like, why do we keep perpetuating these gender stereotypes?” she asked.
She highlighted the imbalance in households where women, despite working professionally, are still expected to cook, clean and wash dishes.
Aladese stressed that domestic contribution should be about partnership, not tied to masculinity or ego.
“It’s not about being less of a man. It’s about partnership. Stop with these stereotypes,” she said, urging men to share the household workload.
Her comments emphasise equality at home and have reignited discussions on partnership, shared responsibility, and modernising traditional gender expectations.
