President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved significant changes in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s national security framework.
In a statement on Friday by Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, General Olufemi Oluyede was appointed the new Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding General Christopher Musa.
Other key appointments include Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff. The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, will continue in his current role.

President Tinubu expressed gratitude to the outgoing service chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” acknowledging their efforts in maintaining national stability and defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
He charged the newly appointed service chiefs to uphold the confidence placed in them by fostering “the professionalism, vigilance and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”
All appointments take immediate effect.
