The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed a fire outbreak at Terminal 1 of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, urging calm as emergency teams work to contain the blaze.
The announcement was made on the authority’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday. FAAN stated that its firefighting team is actively responding to the incident and that no loss of life has been reported.
The authority also noted that further updates would be provided as more information becomes available.

Earlier on Monday, passengers and staff at the terminal reported heavy smoke and rowdiness, reflecting the disruption caused by the incident.
Emergency response operations were ongoing as FAAN firefighting teams continue efforts to fully contain and curtail the fire, while the orderly evacuation of passengers and airport personnel are continuing.
FAAN has said that to strengthen response efforts, the authority had activated mutual aid arrangements and called for reinforcements from the Lagos State Government, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, and other relevant emergency agencies.
“We wish to reassure the public that no loss of life has been recorded at this time, and all necessary measures are being taken to safeguard lives and property.”
