Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has stirred widespread debate online after advising men to be deliberate about who they marry.
Writing on X, Omokri urged men to choose women who genuinely want companionship and shared growth, not financial dependence.
He warned against marriages built on expectations of constant financial support, stressing that a husband should not be viewed as a sponsor for luxury lifestyles, extended family obligations or endless demands.
According to him, marriage should be a partnership where both parties contribute, rather than a situation where one person only distributes wealth they did not help create.
Omokri described the difference as “marrying a buddy versus wedding a burden,” a statement that quickly attracted mixed reactions.
While many users praised his advice as realistic and timely, others argued that financial capacity and emotional responsibility must also be considered.
The comments have reignited conversations about money, roles and expectations in modern marriages.
