President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has rescinded the controversial promotion of his Aide-de-Camp (ADC), Colonel Nurudeen Alowonle Yusuf, to Brigadier General following backlash from within the Nigerian Army.
The decision came after concerns were raised over procedure, morale, and adherence to established promotion standards.
A senior military source revealed that the promotion sparked tension among officers who had completed required courses and years in rank, viewing the special advancement as unfair.
Consultations at the highest levels of the military and the Presidency prompted the reversal, with the President admitting he had been misled by advisors.
Preparations for the decoration ceremony had already been made, with family members and guests invited, but it was cancelled at the last minute.
The Chief of Army Staff and former COAS General Alani Akinrinade intervened to brief Tinubu on the potential morale implications. Officers welcomed the decision, describing it as a relief for the armed forces.
The Presidency is also reviewing security appointments and rank structures within the President’s detail.
