A Nigerian woman has triggered widespread online debate after questioning why some men give their partners what she described as an unrealistic monthly allowance.
In a viral video circulating on X, the lady expressed disbelief that a man could decide that ₦40,000 is sufficient to meet a woman’s monthly needs, especially amid Nigeria’s rising cost of living.
She argued that the amount can barely cover basic expenses, let alone personal care and emergencies.
The woman also blamed some women for encouraging such behaviour by constantly downplaying their needs in relationships under the guise of being “understanding.”
According to her, this often leads to long-term financial neglect. Her comments quickly divided social media users.
While many agreed that ₦40,000 is inadequate in today’s economy, others insisted that allowances should depend on a man’s financial capacity and mutual agreement, not entitlement.
The discussion has since reignited conversations around financial expectations in modern relationships.
