Nigerian singer Tems has shared details of a past toxic relationship, describing how it affected her emotionally and shaped her understanding of love.
Speaking in an interview with Angie Martinez, the award-winning artiste revealed that her former partner displayed obsessive and possessive behaviour, which conflicted with her values.
Tems explained that what she initially perceived as love later felt like control, stressing that genuine relationships should be based on mutual respect rather than ownership.
She added that many individuals in toxic relationships may not even realise their behaviour is harmful, noting that such experiences can be emotionally draining.
According to her, love should reflect unity and partnership, not dominance. Her comments have since resonated with fans online, sparking conversations about emotional health and the realities of unhealthy relationships.
