The Federal Government has announced public holidays for the Christmas and New Year celebrations, declaring December 25 and 26, 2025, as well as January 1, 2026, as work-free days nationwide.

The announcement was made in a statement released on Monday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

According to the statement, the holidays are to enable Nigerians to celebrate Christmas, Boxing Day and the New Year.

Tunji-Ojo urged citizens to use the festive period to reflect on values associated with Christmas, including love, peace, humility and sacrifice.

He also called on Nigerians, regardless of religion or ethnic background, to pray for national unity, improved security and sustainable development.

The minister further advised the public to remain law-abiding and security-conscious during the celebrations, while extending goodwill messages for a joyful Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
