An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has restrained key members of the family of the late former governor, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala, from carrying out any transactions on his estate pending the resolution of an ongoing legal dispute.

The order followed an application filed by the deceased’s first daughter, Oluwatoyin Alao Aderinto, who is challenging the management of her father’s estate before the court.

In its ruling, the court granted an interlocutory injunction stopping Mrs. Oluwakemi Alao-Akala and Olamide Alabi, listed as executors and administrators of the estate, from selling, transferring, or entering into joint venture agreements involving any of the late politician’s properties.

The injunction also applies to their agents, representatives, and any individuals acting on their behalf, effectively freezing all dealings concerning the contested assets until the substantive suit is determined.

The claimant had approached the court, asserting both legal and equitable interests in the estate as the first daughter of the deceased.

She alleged that some properties had already been sold without her knowledge or consent, while further moves were being made to dispose of other assets.

She argued that urgent judicial intervention was necessary to prevent continued transactions that could jeopardise her rights and entitlements, warning that failure to act could result in irreversible loss.

After considering the application, the court not only granted the injunction but also directed an accelerated hearing of the case to ensure a timely resolution of the dispute.

Meanwhile, proceedings also featured a separate application requesting DNA tests among siblings involved in the matter. The court has adjourned to April 16, 2026, to deliver a ruling on the request.

The case has attracted significant public interest due to the prominence of the late Alao-Akala, who served as governor of Oyo State between 2007 and 2011 and remained an influential political figure until his death.
