Popular Yoruba film actress Ajara Lasisi, widely known as Aunty Ajara, has passed away.
Her death occurred in the early hours of Thursday, her family has confirmed.
The announcement was made by her brother, Ridwan Lasisi, in a video message shared online, in which he expressed appreciation for the support and concern shown by colleagues in the film industry and members of the public during her illness.
In the video, Ridwan confirmed her passing and appealed for the discontinuation of financial contributions that had been raised to support her medical treatment.
“Good morning to you all. My name is Ridwan Lasisi. I am a brother to Ajara. The doctor confirmed to us this morning that Ajara has passed on,” he said.
“All the families, we are using this period to appreciate you all. We appreciate the president and all industry members.
“We also use this opportunity to appeal to those sending money not to send it anymore. The one we are contributing for her sake is no more. Thank you so much. We do not want you to send money into that account again.”
Ajara Lasisi’s health condition became public knowledge last week after fellow actress Ronke Oshodi-Oke raised an alarm and appealed for financial assistance on her behalf.
Oshodi-Oke had revealed that the actress was hospitalised in critical condition, relying on an oxygen machine, and that her health continued to deteriorate despite intensive medical care and the high cost of treatment.
