Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have taken former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, into custody shortly after he fulfilled his bail conditions and was released from Kuje Prison.

The ex-minister was picked up by DSS officials immediately after completing the necessary requirements for his freedom, signalling the commencement of a fresh investigation by the security agency.

Sources revealed that the new probe follows the alleged discovery of arms at Malami’s country home in Kebbi State during a search conducted by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Malami had earlier raised concerns about a possible rearrest by the DSS. Through a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Mohammed Bello Doka, the former AGF claimed that the secret police had been monitoring activities around Kuje Prison with the intention of taking him back into custody.

The Federal High Court had on Wednesday granted Malami, his wife, and his son bail in the sum of ₦500 million each, with two sureties. After meeting the stipulated conditions, he was expected to regain full freedom.

However, despite securing his release, the former minister was immediately detained by DSS operatives, confirming his earlier fears of a planned rearrest.
