First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has downplayed public criticism of her brief ‘clash’ with Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, describing the reactions as a “needless controversy.”
In a statement shared on her Facebook page on Tuesday, Mrs. Tinubu said critics often exaggerate minor incidents, creating distractions from leadership matters.
She wrote: “Those entrusted with leadership understand their duties and how to steer the affairs of society. More often, it is the followers and critics who scrutinise every step, amplify minor missteps, and turn them into needless controversy. Ọṣun lè tèǹtẹ̀ – Osun is ahead.”

Her comments came after a video from the 10th coronation anniversary of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, went viral.
The clip showed Governor Adeleke pausing mid-song during his speech, after which Mrs. Tinubu approached the podium, gestured to him, and whispered to him, threatening to stop his song.
Adeleke was preparing to give his speech when Mrs Tinubu walked up to him and whispered to his ear, prompting the governor to giggle.
Afterwards, she was seen leaving the stage, but she quickly returned and angrily told the governor that she would take the microphone if he continued with his song. The governor muttered something about “the protocol,” and continued with his speech.
This statement is Mrs. Tinubu’s first public response since the incident, which has generated divided opinions.
