Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, has accused Primate Elijah Ayodele of attempting to extort N150 million from him in the name of spiritual backing for the 2027 governorship race.
Adelabu filed a petition with the DSS, claiming the cleric requested large sums of money and ritual-related items under the guise of divine instruction.
According to the petition, Ayodele allegedly demanded APC flags and as many as 1,000 saxophones or trumpets, with the items reportedly valued between N50 million and N130 million depending on the quality.
Text messages referenced in the petition show that the cleric set multiple deadlines, insisting the items were necessary for prayers, vigils, and rituals that would supposedly secure electoral victory.
Adelabu’s refusal allegedly triggered a series of negative prophecies from the spiritual leader, who reportedly announced during a church service that the minister would lose any future governorship bid.
The situation has since escalated into a public controversy, with Adelabu describing the events as spiritual intimidation designed to pressure him financially and politically.
