Fresh details have emerged about the vast assets left behind by former Oyo State Governor, Adebayo Alao-Akala, as a legal battle among his family members intensifies over control of his estate.

The revelations surfaced during proceedings at an Oyo State High Court, where Oluwatoyin Alao Aderinto, the late politician’s first daughter, is contesting the management and distribution of the estate.

Court documents show that Alao-Akala’s assets span several locations, including high-value properties in Lagos, Abuja, Ibadan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, as well as a five-star hotel in Ghana.

In the suit marked I/443/2024, Aderinto named Oluwakemi Alao-Akala, widow of the deceased, and Olamide Alabi, another daughter, as defendants, identifying them as executors and administrators of the estate.

She told the court that she holds both legal and equitable interests in her father’s estate as his first daughter, alleging that some assets had already been sold without her knowledge or consent.

Aderinto further claimed that there were ongoing plans to dispose of additional properties or enter joint venture agreements involving the estate, warning that such actions could jeopardise her interests.

The claimant argued that urgent court intervention was necessary to halt further transactions, stressing that failure to do so could result in irreversible losses.

Ruling on the application, the court restrained the defendants from selling, transferring, or entering into any transactions involving the estate pending the determination of the suit.

An interlocutory injunction was granted to preserve all assets, while the court also ordered an accelerated hearing of the case.

In a dramatic twist, Aderinto is seeking a court order for DNA tests involving herself and six others — Olamide, Adebukola, Olamipo, Olamiju (a serving member of the House of Representatives), Tabitha, and Olamikunle — to establish their biological relationship with the late governor.

She requested that the tests be conducted at a court-approved, accredited laboratory, with results submitted under seal to the presiding judge and only unsealed in open court.

Additionally, the claimant is asking the court to order the exhumation of her father’s remains to facilitate the paternity tests.

The case has been adjourned to April 16, 2026, for ruling on the application.

Alao-Akala died on January 12, 2022, at the age of 71 in Ogbomoso. Since his death, disputes have persisted over the administration and sharing of his estate.
