Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has emerged as the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) for the 2027 general election after securing a consensus endorsement at the party’s presidential primary in Ibadan.
Makinde received the party’s flag and Certificate of Return during a ceremony held at Emeritus Professor Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, where delegates and party leaders unanimously backed his candidacy through a voice vote.
The endorsement followed a call by APM National Chairman Yusuf Dantalle, who asked delegates from the party’s 36 states chapters to approve Makinde as the party’s flag bearer.
Speaking at the event, Dantalle said Makinde’s selection was based on his leadership record and achievements as governor of Oyo State.
He described the nomination as the beginning of a broader political movement aimed at repositioning Nigeria ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, Makinde’s emergence symbolizes a new alliance involving the APM, members of the Peoples Democratic Party, and other Nigerians seeking national renewal.
He added that the governor’s seven-year administration in Oyo State demonstrated the capacity and determination needed to lead the country.
The development comes as political parties intensify preparations and realignments ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
