Media personality Toke Makinwa has revealed why she no longer pays tithes to churches, citing personal reflection and a desire to make a direct impact.
In a recent conversation, she explained that her decision stemmed from noticing a gap between wealthy churches and struggling individuals who face rent, medical bills, and daily expenses.
Toke described how some people experience “post-traumatic church syndrome,” highlighting emotional harm caused by certain religious institutions.
She noted that while churches appear financially stable, many members continue to battle hardships, prompting her to redirect her giving.
“Seven years ago, I gave an entire endorsement deal to my church,” she shared. “Now, I give to hospitals, maternity wards, and individuals with immediate needs. I would rather give my tithe to strangers who tell me their actual needs.”
She emphasised that her choice is not an attack on faith but a personal conviction-driven approach to helping people directly.
