The Delta State Police Command has revealed a startling case involving a 17-year-old girl who allegedly staged her own kidnapping with the help of friends, extorting N500,000 from her mother to buy clothes.
The incident left her mother, a hardworking farmer, distressed and struggling to make sense of her daughter’s actions.
In a statement, police said, “She connived with her friends, faked her own kidnap, and extorted a ransom of N500,000 to buy cloth from her innocent mother who does farming jobs in the village to feed.”
Authorities highlighted the crucial role of parental guidance, urging families to monitor children’s behaviour and social circles closely to prevent youths from engaging in deceitful or criminal acts.
The case has sparked wider discussions on youth delinquency, societal values, and the importance of instilling discipline and responsibility in children, particularly in rural communities where parental supervision is often limited
