A fresh leadership crisis has erupted within the Accord Party in Osun State as a splinter group has conducted a parallel governorship primary, producing Clement Bamigbola as its candidate for the 2026 election.
The development came barely four days after Governor Ademola Adeleke was announced as the party’s governorship flagbearer, having emerged unopposed during an earlier primary.
The dissenting faction faulted Adeleke’s emergence, arguing that Barrister Maxwell Ngbudem, who supervised the initial process, is not the duly recognised national chairman of the party and therefore lacked the authority to conduct the exercise.

On Sunday, the faction convened a separate primary in Osogbo, where about 300 delegates drawn from across the state participated.
The exercise was held at Regina Suite and culminated in the selection of Bamigbola as the group’s preferred candidate.
Bamigbola was elected through a voice vote, according to officials who oversaw the process.
The chairman of the primary committee, Hon. Olufemi Ogundare, subsequently declared him the Accord Party’s governorship candidate for the 2026 Osun State election.
Following the declaration, Bamigbola was formally presented with the party’s flag by Ogundare and other leaders of the faction, setting the stage for a deepening internal dispute as the race for the Osun governorship gathers momentum.
