National Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi has urged Nigerian youths to reject ethnic and religious divisions while defending Pastor Enoch Adeboye against growing social media criticism over the country’s worsening insecurity.

In a statement shared on his X account on Thursday, Obi warned that politicians often exploit identity politics when they are unable to compete on ideas, performance, and vision.

His comments followed online attacks on the Redeemed Christian Church of God General Overseer, with some Nigerians demanding that the cleric publicly challenge the government over insecurity.

Obi described Adeboye as a respected spiritual leader who has consistently preached peace, unity, reconciliation, and restraint throughout his decades of ministry.

He argued that it would be unfair to place responsibilities that belong to younger Nigerians on the 84-year-old cleric, urging youths to lead conversations and reforms needed to improve the country.

Obi also advised citizens to verify information, resist manipulation, and prioritise national unity over divisive narratives.
