A video circulating online has caused shock and outrage, reportedly showing a nurse admitting to swapping deceased infants with living babies and selling newborns at a government hospital.

In the clip, the individual claims, “We swapped a dead baby with a living one. I sold male babies for ₦4.5 million and females for ₦2.5 million.”

“Some parents had no idea their babies were being switched right under their noses. It was easy to convince some mothers because they trusted us completely.”

The video has sparked widespread anger on social media, with many questioning the safety and integrity of healthcare facilities.

Concerned citizens have expressed disbelief that such activities could occur in a government hospital.

Authorities, including the Nigerian police and the Ministry of Health, have not yet confirmed the authenticity of the video, identified the individual, or announced any arrests related to the incident.

Experts have warned that if true, such acts could have serious legal and ethical consequences, and have urged hospitals to tighten monitoring of staff and implement stricter protocols to protect newborns.

Public reaction has been swift, with several online commentators calling for immediate accountability and stronger safeguards in maternity wards nationwide.

We had planned that I would be with her when she’s giving birth. I wanted it. I wanted to be there. The first antenatal my family had and the nurses told us that no one would be with my wife in the labour ward, we didn’t bother arguing. We simply went to register at a private hospital. We got what we wanted.
