A Nigerian pastor has ignited heated debate online after a sermon in which he argued that items received during a relationship should be returned once the relationship ends.
In a viral video shared on X, the cleric addressed his congregation while recounting a story of a woman whose former partner reportedly reclaimed a shop he had set up for her after their breakup.
Defending the man’s action, the pastor insisted that he was not wicked for taking back what he paid for.
According to the pastor, gifts such as cars, phones, wigs, houses and businesses are tied to what he described as the “office of a girlfriend.”
He maintained that once someone exits that role, all benefits attached to it should also end.
The sermon quickly divided social media users. While some agreed that gifts should be returned after a breakup, others criticised the pastor for promoting entitlement and control in relationships.
