Nigerian-American academic, Professor Uju Anya, has opened up about her past marriage, revealing that both she and her ex-husband dated other people during their union.
Speaking on With Chude, Dr Anya said her marriage was real, intentional, and founded on love, but over time, she realised her attraction to women was stronger.
She recounted a troubled childhood, growing up with an abusive, womanising father, which she says shaped her worldview and led her to embrace feminism and atheism.
Despite identifying as bisexual, she fell deeply in love with her husband and described the marriage as both emotionally and sexually fulfilling.
About a decade into the marriage, she and her husband agreed to an open arrangement, but it only prolonged the relationship for a few years.
A Nigerian lesbian wedding she attended in New York became the turning point, prompting her to pursue a life with women.
In 2024, she married her partner, Dr Syria Lang, blending their families.
