Grammy Award-winning singer Wizkid has reacted publicly for the first time following days of criticism from fellow musician Seun Kuti.
The controversy began last week after Seun Kuti accused Wizkid’s fanbase, popularly known as Wizkid FC, of disrespecting the legacy of his late father, Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
Seun had condemned comparisons being made between modern-day artists and Fela, describing such comparisons as an attempt to diminish his father’s influence and stature in music history.

He warned fans and commentators against placing contemporary musicians on the same pedestal as the Afrobeat legend, insisting that such narratives amounted to efforts to “steal the man’s image”.
After several days of silence, Wizkid addressed the issue on his Instagram Stories.
He shared a video of a woman speaking in his defence, in which she argued that the singer had helped introduce Fela Kuti’s music to a younger generation.
Wizkid then followed up with a direct and strongly worded message aimed at Seun Kuti.
He wrote: “Fela fight for freedom, this fool Dey fight fc! Oloshi Omo ale! I big pass your papa, wetin you wan do? Fool at 40. @bigbirdkuti I’m Big Wiz everyday bigger than your papa!! Wetin u one do fool. Hungry bastard.”
