The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has declared all correctional facilities across the country as “Red Zones” ahead of the planned nationwide protest demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu, scheduled for Monday, October 20, 2025.
In a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Umar Abubakar, the NCoS cautioned that all correctional centres remain restricted areas and warned protesters to stay away to prevent any security breaches or unfortunate incidents.
The NCoS urged citizens to exercise restraint and cooperate with security agencies to maintain peace and order, emphasizing the need to respect restricted zones such as correctional facilities.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force has dismissed a viral report alleging that the Federal High Court in Abuja blocked an attempt by the police to stop the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest.
The Force clarified that it never filed any case before the court to restrain the demonstration.
The report had claimed that Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, dispatched police lawyers to move an ex parte motion against activist and protest convener, Omoyele Sowore, in a bid to legally preempt the planned protest at the Presidential Villa.
