The Rivers State House of Assembly has dismissed a High Court order that sought to halt the impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy.
On Friday, the state High Court issued an interim injunction restraining the Speaker of the Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, and the Clerk of the House from forwarding any correspondence relating to the impeachment process to the Chief Judge of Rivers State.
The court further barred the Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Amadi, from taking any action connected to the impeachment moves.

But reacting to the development, the Assembly rejected the court’s intervention, insisting that it has no constitutional authority over impeachment matters.
Speaking with DAILY POST, the spokesman of the Assembly, Enemi George, said the legislature had not been officially notified of any such order.
He maintained that the Nigerian Constitution expressly prevents the courts from interfering in impeachment proceedings against a sitting governor.
Enemi said, “The House is not aware of any court order. However, if you read section 188(10), the court has no power to intervene in the impeachment process”.
