Nigeria’s electricity grid suffered a nationwide collapse on Tuesday morning, cutting power supply across the country after generation and load allocation dropped to zero for all distribution companies.
The failure marks the second collapse of the national grid in just five days and the third in a month, following previous shutdowns on December 29, 2025, and last Friday.

According to the grid operator, the system failure occurred around 10:50 a.m., when electricity allocation to all distribution companies fell to zero. Data from the operator confirmed that power generation across the national grid also plunged to zero megawatts, resulting in a total blackout nationwide.
A review of the national distribution load profile revealed that all distribution companies—including Abuja, Eko, Benin, Enugu, Ibadan, Ikeja, Jos, Kano, Kaduna, Port Harcourt, and Yola—recorded zero load at the time of the outage.
Reports indicate that all 23 power generation plants connected to the national grid lost output during the incident, leaving the 11 electricity distribution companies without any power allocation.
