The People’s Republic of China has praised the Federal Government of Nigeria for successfully rescuing four Chinese nationals abducted in Kwara State.
The operation, carried out through a coordinated effort involving the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigerian military, led to the safe recovery of the victims.
China’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, conveyed the commendation on Sunday during the official handover of the rescued victims at the DSS medical facility in Abuja.
The ambassador, represented by the Chinese Consul, Wang Jun, applauded the DSS for what he described as a swift, intelligence-driven response that ensured the miners’ safe return.
The rescued nationals were identified as Dansu Zhou, Zhou Hai, Zhou Jia Jun, and Fan Xiu Guo. They were freed on Saturday following a joint security operation involving personnel from ONSA, DSS, the Nigerian Army, and the Police.

Wang Jun expressed gratitude to the DSS for the exceptional medical attention provided to the rescued citizens at its Abuja facility, noting that the care they received contributed significantly to their quick recovery.
He also commended the quality of the DSS medical centre, saying the Chinese government had not been aware that the Service possessed such a well-equipped facility.
“Following their rescue, DSS operatives immediately took our citizens to their facility for medical evaluation. They were thoroughly examined by top professionals before being transferred to our embassy in Abuja,” said the Consul, Xingwei.
Investigations revealed that the Chinese miners were ambushed and abducted by a group of seven armed bandits wielding AK-47 rifles while travelling to a mining site in Saminaka village, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The DSS has recently intensified nationwide operations targeting criminal networks, resulting in the interception of illegal arms and the dismantling of several kidnapping and smuggling rings.
The Service has also earned public commendation for a recent successful operation in Asaba, Delta State, where operatives seized seven General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), assorted weapons, and ammunition, an achievement widely regarded as a testament to the agency’s growing impact in combating insecurity and restoring peace across Nigeria.
