Former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has reiterated his support for the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, using the moment to throw jabs on Yoruba activist Sunday Igboho.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, Sowore reframed the narrative around his recent solidarity rally in Aba, Abia State, insisting the demonstration was a legitimate call for justice rather than a provocation.

In the process, he drew a sharp contrast between Kanu and Igboho, dismissing any comparison between the two figures.

“It’s heresy comparing Sunday Igboho to Nnamdi Kanu. Kanu is far better than Igboho,” he said.

Sowore went further, criticising Igboho’s political relevance and style.

“I don’t know Igboho too well, but I’ve always stated that his own brand of politics is what they call Amala politics in Oyo state, it is politics of chop l chop.

“What Sunday Igboho is going to quickly realize is that he’s going to be in the hall of infamy,” Sowore said.

The activist also described Igboho as a “nuisance,” challenging him to confront him physically if necessary.

Beyond the personal criticism, Sowore argued that figures like Igboho are being used to intimidate citizens and discourage resistance against perceived injustice.

He maintained that his Aba rally was aimed at drawing attention to Kanu’s continued detention and the need for his release.

Sowore also questioned the political climate under President Bola Tinubu, suggesting that a government confident in its support base should not be wary of public demonstrations.

“If President Bola Tinubu is truly supported by 33 governors, he should not be afraid of rally,” he said.
