The League of Imams in Lagos State has cautioned Nigerians against protests that could disrupt public peace, urging citizens to embrace prayer and restraint amid rising global tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

The warning follows demonstrations in parts of Lagos State after reports of US–Israeli strikes on Iran, allegedly resulting in the death of Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei.

Speaking at the Ramadan Tafsir programme held at Lagos House, Ikeja, Sheikh Abdul Rahman Ahmad of the Ansarudeen Society said religious seasons such as Ramadan and Lent should be devoted to prayers for peace, not unrest.

He warned that poorly understood protests could trigger violence and worsen economic pressures, including fuel price hikes.

Citing lessons from the #EndSARS protests, Ahmad urged Nigerians to avoid actions that could destabilise the country and called on religious leaders to consistently preach peace and unity.
