The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned the immediate past Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, for questioning.

The invitation, contained in a letter dated November 24, scheduled the interview for Friday, November 28 at the EFCC Headquarters, Institution and Research District, Jabi, Abuja.

“The Commission is investigating a case which the need to obtain certain information from you becomes imperative,” the letter stated. It was signed by Sunday Atiba Ofen-Imu on behalf of the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.

The letter further directed: “In view of the above, you are requested to kindly attend an interview with the undersigned through the Head, Special Duty Committee-3. This request is made pursuant to Section 38(1) and (2) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2024. Your cooperation in this regard is highly solicited, please.”

The EFCC did not disclose the specific reason for summoning the former Attorney-General.

Malami has acknowledged receipt of the letter and confirmed his intention to comply. In a statement obtained by Channels Television on Friday, he said he remains committed to cooperating with investigators and upholding transparency in public service.

“This is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC. As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation,” he said.

The former minister emphasized accountability as a core value, adding: “I understand the spirit of accountability and transparency in public service — the principles that I both advocate and champion. Rooted in public service and in the spirit of transparency and accountability, I am committed to sharing with the Nigerian public the developments as they unfold.”

Malami served as Attorney-General and Minister of Justice under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
