A Nigerian man has narrated a heartbreaking ordeal after spending nearly 30 years in prison over a wrongful conviction linked to the death of a friend.
The man revealed that he was arrested at the age of 19 after authorities accused him of involvement in the death of a roommate.
His only connection to the case, he said, was that he was sleeping in the same room where the deceased was later found.
Despite repeatedly declaring his innocence, he was convicted and remained behind bars for 29 years, eight months and three days.
Recounting his experience in a now-viral video, the man described the years lost to incarceration as deeply painful, noting that no proper investigation was carried out to establish the true cause of his friend’s death.
His story has triggered widespread outrage online, with many Nigerians criticising the country’s justice system and calling for reforms to prevent similar miscarriages of justice in the future.
