A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has unveiled plans to commence state congresses and ultimately hold a national convention to elect new party executives.

The chairman of the bloc’s Board of Trustees, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, revealed the move on Sunday during the opening of a BoT meeting at Wike’s residence in Life Camp, Abuja.

He said the group had begun restructuring PDP organs in states troubled by internal disputes, including the appointment of caretaker committees to prepare for congresses and the convention.

Ohuabunwa said the factional BoT would fully support the Abdulrahman Mohammed–led National Working Committee, insisting the team must manage party affairs strictly according to existing regulations.

He stressed that the BoT has a constitutional responsibility to steady the party, provide moral direction and prevent actions capable of deepening internal divisions.

He urged members to rise above personal interests and uphold the principles that once distinguished the PDP as a disciplined political organisation.

The former senator encouraged party elders to remain committed to ongoing reforms aimed at restoring unity ahead of future elections.

Ohuabunwa was elected factional BoT chairman on 7 November 2025, during a meeting also held at Wike’s residence.

The planned convention further complicates the PDP crisis, following a separate convention held in Ibadan by a bloc loyal to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, which produced Turaki Taminu as national chairman.

That convention was conducted amid conflicting court orders, while the Wike camp is now in court seeking its nullification.
