Actor and filmmaker Lateef Adedimeji has revealed that deliberately taking emotional scenes and crying in movies was a calculated strategy to build a unique identity in Nollywood during the early years of his career.

Speaking on The Morayo Show, Adedimeji said he struggled to stand out because many people recognised him as someone who resembled a senior colleague.

Although he appreciated the comparison, he wanted audiences to remember him for his own talent.

The actor explained that after studying the industry, he realised emotional performances were often overlooked, prompting him to put extra effort into every crying scene, even when it lasted only a few seconds.

According to him, the strategy paid off as viewers began referring to him as the “crying machine” before eventually learning his name.

Adedimeji said the experience taught him that entertainers must remain versatile and develop different skills to enjoy lasting success in the movie industry.
