Nigerians have reacted on social media after videos emerged showing Bola Aseyan, who is facing a defamation suit over rape allegations she made against UK-based medical doctor Olufunmilayo Ogunsanya, popularly known as OurFavOnlineDoc, accepting a marriage proposal from a UK-based man.

The videos, which circulated on X and other social media platforms, attracted mixed reactions from users, many of whom referenced the ongoing legal proceedings involving Aseyan.

The proposal comes while a defamation and cyberstalking suit filed against her by Ogunsanya remains pending before the Federal High Court in Lagos.

The dispute began in June 2020 when Aseyan accused the doctor of rape and emotional abuse during their relationship in the United Kingdom.

Ogunsanya denied the allegations, prompting investigations by the UK Metropolitan Police and the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS).

In July 2023, the tribunal concluded that the allegations were not proved and restored Ogunsanya’s licence to practise medicine after it had been suspended during the investigation.

Following the outcome of the UK proceedings, the doctor instituted a defamation and cyberstalking suit against Aseyan in Nigeria, alleging that the accusations caused significant damage to his reputation and career.

In 2024, Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court, Lagos, dismissed Aseyan’s no-case submission and ruled that she had a case to answer. The matter is yet to be concluded.

Reacting to the engagement online, an X user, @richmon96, wrote, “He dun see signs na wonders remain.”

Another user, @UchechiClinton, said, “She will pay for damages for defamation.”

@OnwuzirikeP2 commented, “Some men just dig grave for themselves and blame devil.”

Another user, @ThisisMaxween, wrote, “Life goes on ofc.”

The engagement has continued to generate discussions online, while the defamation case against Aseyan remains before the court.
