The Kano State Executive Council has called for the immediate investigation and arrest of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje over comments it described as “inciting and reckless” regarding the state’s security situation.

The call followed discussions at the council’s 34th Executive Meeting on Thursday at the Government House, Kano, where members reviewed recent statements by Ganduje and Deputy Senate President Barau I. Jibrin.

The officials had warned that Kano was increasingly vulnerable to banditry and announced plans to recruit 12,000 people into a proposed religious police force called Khairul Nas.

Briefing journalists on Friday, Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said the remarks risked undermining ongoing security operations by both state and federal authorities.

The council also expressed concern that less than 48 hours after the statements, suspected bandits attacked some border communities, raising questions about whether the comments were premeditated or linked to the attacks.

“We don’t know what Ganduje meant with those statements. He must be investigated because we cannot allow anyone to destabilise the peace in our state,” Waiya said.

The state government reiterated its gratitude to the Federal Government and security agencies for their efforts in combating insecurity and stressed that no individual or group would be permitted to establish an illegal militia under any pretext.

It further urged public officials and political leaders to avoid statements that could incite unrest, assuring residents of Kano of the government’s continued commitment to maintaining law, order, and peace across the state.
