The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has called on Ndigbo living in Nigeria and abroad to return home for Christmas, assuring them of enhanced security across the South-East region.
The group described the area as Nigeria’s most peaceful zone and said overall safety has improved despite past challenges and sporadic unrest over the last four years.
IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful urged residents and returnees to disregard social media reports and propaganda against IPOB and its security wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
He said the groups, with the support of local communities, have played a key role in maintaining peace, and emphasised that the region’s tranquility reflects the inherently peaceful nature of the people.
Powerful also encouraged Ndigbo to complement security efforts by bringing investments and supporting local development.
The group dismissed claims of recent kidnappings in the South-East as false and warned that ESN operations are discreet, without updates on social media.
IPOB further criticised attempts by the Federal Government and some politicians to undermine the movement, describing the Biafra restoration initiative as sacred.
It urged Ndigbo to return home for the festive season without fear and to actively contribute to the region’s growth through investments.
