Nollywood actress and producer Ini Edo has appealed to film regulators and the public not to withdraw her movie, A Very Dirty Christmas, from cinemas, amid criticism over its title.
She insisted that the film does not mock Christianity and urged critics to watch it before passing judgement.
In an emotional video shared on social media, Edo said the controversy centres on the title rather than the content, stressing that she would personally take responsibility if the film is found to insult the Christian faith.
She explained that the story focuses on family conflicts and hidden secrets, not religion.
The actress expressed concern over the financial implications of withdrawing the film, noting that it is currently showing in dozens of cinemas nationwide and backed by investors.
While confirming that regulators have asked for a title change, Edo said she is willing to comply but pleaded for time.
The appeal follows objections by the Christian Association of Nigeria, while the National Film and Video Censors Board said it is reviewing the matter in the public interest.
