Afrobeat star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has hinted at plans to delve into acting, saying he would like to take up the role of a taxi driver in a movie.
The multiple award-winning artiste disclosed this during a panel session at the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) tagged “Rhythms of the Continent: The Afrobeat Movement and Its Impacts on African Film.”
Davido said the idea of playing a humble, everyday character excites him because it would allow him to explore a side of creativity different from music.
“My brother was saying he was going to give me a role. I told him I wanted to play a taxi driver or something totally unexpected. He has to figure that out.
I definitely want to get involved in movies,” he said. He explained that his growing interest in film was inspired by entertainers who have successfully blended both industries, such as American rapper 50 Cent, who now produces movies and television series.
According to Davido, Africa’s film scene is rich with untold stories, and he intends to contribute by telling authentic African experiences that mirror the continent’s beauty and struggles.
He said projects like “Uncorked” had influenced his creative thinking and deepened his appreciation for storytelling that stays true to African culture.
Davido also revealed that film production was part of his long-term vision to expand his creative influence beyond music.
He described cinema as a powerful way to reshape how the world sees Africa and to promote collaboration among African creatives.
The singer emphasised that the fusion of music and film would help project African voices globally, saying he looked forward to working with directors and producers who share similar values about the continent’s representation.
