Former Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, on Thursday formally aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mimiko arrived at the APC secretariat in Ondo West Local Government amid a charged atmosphere, where party faithful and supporters gathered to witness his official entry into the ruling party.
The former governor was received by the Ondo State APC Chairman, Mr. Babatunde Kolawole, alongside the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, in what party leaders described as a significant boost to the party’s growing influence in the state.
His movement to the APC comes barely months after he formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), putting an end to weeks of speculation surrounding his next political destination.
Mimiko, who governed Ondo State between 2009 and 2017, remains one of the most influential political figures in the state, having built a formidable grassroots structure that survived his transition from the Labour Party to the PDP over the years.
Political observers believe his latest move signals a fresh phase in Ondo’s power dynamics, particularly in Ondo Central Senatorial District, where he continues to command considerable loyalty and political relevance.
Sources within the APC said the party views Mimiko’s entry as a strategic addition capable of consolidating support across key voting blocs, especially ahead of future political contests in the state.
After maintaining a relatively low political profile in recent years, the former governor is now seen as returning to the centre of active partisan engagement, with many of his loyalists already reportedly aligning with the ruling party.
Confirming the development, former spokesman to Mimiko, Mr. Akinsola, said arrangements had been concluded for the ex-governor’s reception into the APC.
