The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted a ₦200 million bail to African Action Congress presidential candidate and publisher Omoyele Sowore in his ongoing alleged cybercrime case.

Delivering the ruling on Tuesday, Justice Mohammed Umar ordered Sowore to produce two sureties, including a traditional ruler from his community and a landed property owner in Abuja.

The court also directed the prosecution to verify the sureties before the bail conditions are perfected.

In addition, Sowore was ordered to deposit his international passport with the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court pending the conclusion of the trial.

Following the ruling, the judge released him to his legal team and adjourned proceedings until Monday, July 6, when the defence is expected to commence.

Earlier this month, Justice Umar ordered Sowore’s remand at the Kuje Correctional Centre after dismissing his application seeking the judge’s recusal over allegations of bias. Sowore has denied the charges against him.
