The Head of Mission of the Leadership & Accountability Initiative, Henry Shield, has appealed to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and former President Goodluck Jonathan to close ranks and rally behind a single opposition candidate ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

In a public statement on Sunday addressed to the three leaders, the group urged them to prioritise Nigeria’s future over individual ambitions, warning that a divided opposition would only guarantee another victory for President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Dear Atiku, Peter Obi, and Goodluck Jonathan, may I appeal to you three leaders to kindly consider Nigeria and Nigerians and join hands together to present the country with just one of you as the opposition’s candidate while others rally behind such,” the statement read.

The group cautioned that “anything less, and Tinubu unfortunately wins,” adding that failure to unite could relegate opposition figures “to spend the rest of their lives forever in opposition.”

It concluded by calling on the trio to make “the salvation of Nigeria from the APC bigger than personal ambition.”
