At least six African nations have secured qualification for the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup following the latest round of group-stage matches.
Ghana and Cape Verde became the newest teams to book their places in the knockout stage, joining Egypt, Morocco, South Africa and Côte d’Ivoire. Ghana advanced despite having one group match remaining after Spain defeated Uruguay 1-0, a result that mathematically guaranteed the Black Stars progression.
Cape Verde also sealed qualification after recording a third consecutive draw, finishing second in their group behind Spain.
Meanwhile, Tunisia’s World Cup journey ended following their elimination from the competition.
Senegal, Algeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo still have hopes of reaching the knockout phase but must wait to see if their records are sufficient to qualify as some of the tournament’s best third-placed teams.
The remaining group-stage fixtures will determine the final African representatives in the last 32.
