Filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has dismissed reports alleging that he owes FirstBank ₦5 billion over a loan purportedly obtained to finance his 2022 film, Aníkúlápó, describing the claims as completely false.
Reacting in a video shared on Friday, Afolayan insisted that neither he nor his company owed anyone the reported amount and denied any ongoing litigation with the bank.
He joked that he would gladly accept a ₦5 billion loan if any bank was willing to provide it, saying he would use it for the country’s benefit.
According to him, Aníkúlápó was a straightforward co-production between Golden Effects Pictures and Netflix, with no outstanding financial obligations.
He also stated that FirstBank remains a valued collaborator and that there is no dispute between both parties.
While claiming he knew those behind the rumours, the filmmaker declined to identify them.
He thanked supporters who reached out after social media posts alleged he had been served court papers over an unpaid loan, maintaining that the reports were entirely fabricated.
