Nigerian cleric Matthew Ashimolowo has publicly defended Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, declaring that Christians will not remain silent in the face of what he described as unfair attacks against the revered church leader.

In a lengthy Instagram statement, Ashimolowo said it was time for believers to honour and celebrate spiritual fathers rather than allow them to be reduced to social media controversies and public criticism.

He described Adeboye as one of the most significant Christian leaders of the modern era and a gift to Africa and the global Church, warning that a generation that fails to honour its fathers risks losing the value of their legacy.

The preacher also criticised those he called “cheap publicity seekers” for allegedly using respected men of God to gain attention. Ashimolowo’s remarks come amid growing debates over the role of Nigerian pastors in addressing national issues.

Other public figures, including Mike Bamiloye, Julianna Olayode and Mary Njoku, have recently shared differing views on the expectations placed on religious leaders during challenging times in the country.
