Rapper Ycee has expressed concern over what he described as a growing decline in academic excellence and increasing acceptance of ignorance in Nigerian society, warning that the trend could negatively shape younger generations.
Speaking during a recent interview on the Afropolitan podcast, the artiste argued that education is gradually losing value and that fewer young people appear interested in formal learning.
According to him, the cultural shift extends beyond internet fraud narratives and has evolved into what he called a “Peller culture,” where controversial content and popularity increasingly attract attention and reward.
Ycee said society now seems focused on accommodating ignorance rather than promoting learning and critical thinking, describing the development as an “Olodo uprising.”
He further linked the situation to challenges facing Nigeria’s education sector and questioned the message being passed to young people when fame and financial success become associated with unintelligent or controversial online behaviour.
